AI Model Predicts Past Events

To answer this question, some AI researchers are looking to the past. Talkie, released last week, is one of the newest AI models—but also one of the oldest. Trained only on data before December 31, 1930, the system has ingested old books, scientific journals, and newspapers, as well as poetry collections, etiquette manuals, and encyclopedias. Jonathan Gibson is a reporter at The Dispatch, currently based in Washington, D.C., and covering artificial intelligence. Before joining The Dispatch, he lived in London, where he completed a bachelor’s degree in politics and international relations at the London School of Economics and Political Science.
