DIY women… have you ever been talked out of a good idea at the hardware store?
Genuine question. My wife is seriously good at DIY. Her father owned his own carpentry business when she was growing up, so naturally she picked up a lot of skill along the way. She plans things out, thinks through her approach… she really knows her stuff!
But every so often she’ll go to a hardware store to grab supplies or talk through an idea, and comes home completely deflated. It turns into “that won’t work,” “you’re doing it wrong,” or a flood of unsolicited advice she didn’t ask for. Not even helpful, just down right dismissive. It’s honestly tough to watch. She’ll go in confident and excited about a project, and come back second-guessing something she was so sure about. I can’t help but feel like if I walked in and said the exact same thing, it would land very differently. And on my end, I’m never sure what the right move is. I don’t want to seem unsupportive, but I also don’t want to step in and make it look like she needs rescuing.
Is this something other women deal with? Or guys, have you seen it happen to your partner? How do you usually handle it?
