Door to door Scammer claims to be PSEG

Earlier today in the Metuchen/Edison area, had a woman knock on the door claiming to be with PSEG & Elizabethtown gas & asked to get our account information. She said that she worked for "Green Choice Energy" & was being very pushy, insisting that she needed to check that we weren't being overcharged on our bills. The whole interaction was completely phishy. When we questioned why we weren't notified prior to her getting there she kept insisting that we missed our alerts and that she was sent out on short notice. She kept insisting that we give up our account info and literally tried clicking through a link on my partner's phone. I told her we wouldn't be doing anything today & asked her to leave. She then asked to use our bathroom, to which I denied. I then opened the door & directed her to a nearby public restroom. Later, I found out she knocked on my neighbor's door & gave them the same spiel. Notified the apartment complex, this is not a new scam - but wondering... does something like this warrant a call to the cops? Is there anything illegal here or is this just shady business practice?
