Friends invited us to a fun getaway weekend but used us for their MLM scheme

This happened a few years back. I ran into an old friend at a high school reunion. We hadn't seen each other since her first wedding which I was in when we were 20. It turned out her ex was abusive and wouldn't let her keep in touch with her friends. Sad, but I'm glad she was able to get out. She was now remarried to a wealthy man who was quite a bit older. She seemed happy so I was happy for her. We started hanging out again and they invited us to their lake house for the weekend to relax, ride their boat, and hang out at their pool. We were excited! We drove 2 hours to get there and instead of the lunch we were promised, we walked into a room complete with whiteboards, 2 men who were leading a meeting we knew nothing about, and 3 other couples we didn't know would be there. Also, the other couples acted excited so they either knew about it or they were plants to help rope us in. My friend said that it wouldn't take long (it took 2 hours) and introduced us to everyone. It turned out that the 2 men were father and son, the father lived next door and he was the president of of the MLM. We were in a bit of shock at being ambushed and sat down for the meeting. Of course the other couples were asking all sorts of questions and the father and son kept referring to this wonderful opportunity as our "Plan B" which would soon turn into our "Plan A". We knew a pyramid scheme when we saw it and did the Vulcan mind meld silently telling each other we were leaving as soon as this s--t show was over. After the grueling 2 hour ordeal and while everyone was standing around talking, we quickly went to my soon to be ex friend and told her we had to leave. She loudly said that she was so disappointed because she thought we would be interested in signing up. WTF?? I told her that we were disappointed because we thought we were coming for a fun weekend and were looking forward to spending time with them, not being pressured into joining an MLM. Then the neighbor came over and loudly said how we were making a big mistake in passing up this golden opportunity, blah, blah, blech. We practically ran out of there and I think we might have left skid marks peeling out of their driveway. And of course we stopped somewhere for lunch before our 2 hour drive back because we never got that lunch. Nothing like being trapped in a bad infomercial instead of the fun weekend we were promised!
