US Vice President JD Vance declared one of his "proudest" moments as part of the Trump administration was ending funding for Ukraine.
Vance made the comments at a Turning Point USA event in Georgia yesterday (April 14) and has sparked outrage online with some accusing him of "bragging" about abandoning a country at war.
In a response to a question, Vance responded about meeting an American-Ukrainian man who was unhappy with the Vice President's comments on the war-torn country.
Vance said: "And this person got really agitated at me because I was saying we should stop funding the Ukraine war.

"And I still believe that, obviously, and it's one of the things I'm proudest that we've done in this administration is we've told Europe that if you want to buy weapons, you can, but the United States is not buying weapons and sending them to Ukraine anymore."

He added: [A Ukrainian-American] was sticking his finger in my face saying 'you need to support my country!'"
"I said, 'sir, with all due respect, if you're an American, your country is the United States of America—NOT a place that you immigrated from.'" Whether your family's been here for 300 years or one second, to be an American means to look out for Americans FIRST — and that's the perspective we have to take to our immigration policy."
His comments have sparked outrage online with accounts from the US and Ukraine. One wrote: "He called it one of his proudest achievements. From Ukraine, it sounds like bragging about abandonment."

Ukrainian voices contributor, Kate from Kharkiv, wrote on X: "Vance says that stopping funding for Ukraine is one of his proudest achievements in this administration. I’m watching this stunningly cruel speech from Ukraine, as Russia continues to kills us every day. Just today, they killed 8-year-old boy in Cherkasy and five people in Dnipro. Dozens more were injured.
"The military assistance you are so proud of stopping was used to save lives in a war Russia started and continues every day by choice, in a war that only became possible after USA pressured Ukraine into disarming... I do not know if Vance can fully comprehend the scale of the tragedy unfolding here: a brutal, illegal war of extermination by Russia, and the slow abandonment by our allies. There is nothing to be proud of. Absolutely nothing."
Another wrote: "We are running out of air defense, and Vance is bragging about being proud of terminating aid to Ukraine."

Trump ended nearly all new aid to Ukraine and now Europe helps the country keep up with defence spending against Putin's brutal strikes after invading the country.
Vance has been vocal with his criticisms of Ukraine and was a key figure in fuelling a row with Trump and Volodymyr Zelenskyy last year accusing the leader of disrespect.
Even last month, Vance continued his attacks on Ukraine by accusing Zelenskyy last week of "threatening" Hungary's outgoing Prime Minister Viktor Orban. The Vice President also slammed the Ukrainian President as holding up peace over "a few square kilometres" of land.
