Would this be ridiculous or ridiculously cool to put in our backyard?

I love Lord of the Rings and am obsessed with this fire ring and would like to create a fire pit area like the second picture. My husband hates the idea and isn't on board at all and basically said I can't buy it (using my own money, we have separate accounts) because it's "too nerdy" for our shared space. My other thought was to buy the fire ring and use bricks built up around the outside so you can only see the design inside, but it feels like a waste of the gorgeous design that way.
