Who says faculty committees are a waste of time? Earlier this month, a committee of 10 faculty members at Yale University released a report investigating the reasons for the dramatic decline of higher education’s reputation in the United States. The concern is warranted. Yale’s Report of the Committee on Trust in Higher Education is a bracing document that forthrightly acknowledges that the growing mistrust of our colleges and universities is well-earned and offers challenging but reasonable solutions. It should gladden anyone interested in the health of our elite institutions.
